Toyota acceleration: why I’m skeptical

overlawyered.com -- Dating back to 1992 models, LA Times reporters found 56 deaths reported to NHTSA over the course of 19 model-years. If Toyota is suffering from electronic problems, these electronic problems should affect all drivers equally. If Toyota sudden acceleration is caused by driver pedal misapplication, then we should expect to see a disproportionate number of elderly and short drivers. Unfortunately, we don’t have driver heights, and in only 24 of the 56 cases, did the Times list the age of the driver.

The ages: 18, 21, 22*, 32, 34, 44, 45, 47, 56, 57, 58, 60, 61, 63, 66, 68, 71**, 72, 72, 77, 79, 83, 85, 89.

"If Toyota is suffering from electronic problems, these electronic problems should affect all drivers equally."

Not necessarily. My computer will occasionally act up or freeze for no discernable reason. There's no reason to believe that computer-controlled electronics in automobiles are any different. Every car needs the equivalent of a CONTROL-ALT-DELETE function built-in to override the computer's directives to the engine if something goes wrong.

This is the 3rd 'skeptical' Toyota story so far. I'm beginning to think GoBlazers drives a Toyota.

If it were just driver pedal misapplication, then all car companies should have the same problems, not just Toyota.

Right - it's not the manufacturer, it's the old fart behind the wheel. Sounds like Toiyota propaganda to me.

The lawyers are going to have a field day with this lawsuit! It will soon become so complicated, even Obama won't know what's going on or who to blame.

Things differ, and there the differences include the driver and automaker.

Now, autos today, are more ment for comfort for the driver. This can be very true for subcompacts, compacts, and midsized vehicles for drivers who are young and old. The auto also has to be involved in this as well, and Toyota has the largest picture.
